Shoshanna Godber

Shoshanna Godber

Shoshanna is a performing pianist, vocalist, Celtic harpist and Clawhammer banjo player. She loves variety both in terms of repertoire and instruments. She is a classically trained pianist and vocalist with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of British Columbia and recognizes the importance of a strong base in classical music. However, she also appreciates the challenge and fun of playing different styles and strives to find a balance. She incorporates skills into her lessons that help her students develop into well-rounded musicians capable of both reading music and playing by ear or lead sheet. Her specialty is young students, and she absolutely loves the Music For Young Children method and thinks it provides the best music foundation possible. She has had extensive education and experience with young children through her work as a children's librarian, Mother Goose Facilitator and Parent and Tot program coordinator. Ages: All ages

Teaching method:
A plan for study is developed in conjunction with the student considering their interests, strengths and weaknesses. In order to help students develop into well-rounded musicians, solid technique, a firm understanding of music theory, playing by ear and arranging/composing is encouraged.

Repertoire ranges from Celtic, classical and contemporary

Group Options: Celtic Harp Ensemble
The harp ensemble offers a wonderful opportunity for harpists (both students and non-students) to meet and play with others in a supportive and relaxed atmosphere. Shoshanna endeavors to choose music that is suitable for a multi-level ensemble so all levels of ability are welcome. Repertoire ranges from Celtic, classical and contemporary.

Performance Opportunities:
Encourages students to take advantage of as many performance opportunities as possible.

“Shoshanna has an exceptional gift as a music teacher, and we are so very fortunate to have had her as our music teacher for the last few years, and for the next few years to come. We couldn't ask for anyone better. She is simply THE BEST!”

“Shoshanna Godber has remarkable talent as a musician and music teacher.  Her enthusiasm for sharing the joy of learning music is contagious.  She encouraged children to perform with passion and confidence. Even parents loved taking lessons in her relaxed comfortable setting.  Shoshanna's never-ending patience with students of all ages is remarkable.  Her incredible passion for music and ability to play different instruments is very inspiring.”  ~ Cathy Macpherson

"Shoshanna is a wonder! She is a skilled, patient and empathic teacher with an unerring eye for what needs work and how that work can be effectively approached. She is an extremely gifted and expressive musician, yet engages with genuine enthusiasm with those of us who are just learning to love and play the harp. I feel extraordinarily fortunate to be able to study with Shoshanna, to benefit from her knowledge, and to be a recipient of her exceptional gift for teaching music."
- Lela Zimmer
