Laine Longton

Laine Longton

Laine Longton is a professional performing cellist based in Vancouver BC.  She has been teaching for 14 years, students of all ages and abilities, ranging from 3 year old beginners to high school students auditioning for university programs.  Laine was the Director of UBC Summer Music Institute’s string program from 2015 to 2018, in which the string orchestra performed music from all the genres between Bach and pop.  She loves teaching and connecting with students as they learn and develop into full musicians.  Currently she is teaching students in Prince George, Nanaimo, and Vancouver through online lessons.

Laine is also an avid freelance musician, performing with the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and in numerous chamber ensembles.  She has also given solo and chamber recitals in Vancouver, Point Roberts, Victoria, and the lower mainland.  One of Laine’s favourite things to do is to perform as a pit musician for musical theatre in Vancouver and the lower mainland.

Laine received a Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Victoria.  She holds a Masters of Music in Performance and Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  She is currently a DMA candidate at UBC.
